Writing our Central Idea

Today we started our new unit of Inquiry - Where We Are in Place and Time (Earth's Changes)

An inquiry into orientation in place and time; the relationships between and the interconnectedness of individuals and civilizations, from local and global perspectives.

Today we watched a couple of videos on landslides and what is erosion as a tuning in activity for our new unit. The class then wrote a central idea based on what they had seen and thought.
They did not know what our central idea is and came up with the following

Earths Changes - Understanding why the world changes and why you just have to live with your environment
and
Understanding the changes of the world and is landscapes over time

Pretty good central ideas.
Our actual Central Idea is : Ongoing geographical
changes on Earth have caused humans to adapt to their environment.

Happy Birthday Anthony

On Monday we celebrated Anthony's birthday.

Anthony's mother and younger brother brought in cupcakes for the class to share. They were very well received

Buddies, Fractions & Assembly

This week has been another busy one. We started our new module in maths - Fractions and also spent time with our buddy class where we shared our modern fable stories we have written. Some  have created a puppet show or comic book.

We also farewelled Kenta on the "Raft" at assembly. Kenta will be returning back to Japan in late March. He will surely be missed by all.
Here are some photos from the week.

Check out Kenta on the "Raft". He spoke very well and can be very proud of how far he has come with his English.

Classes were buddied up with a secondary class. We were partnered up with grade 9 children. Classes meet in the black box theatre where we watched different groups of students and teachers performed an item in their mother tongue.

Classes then went around groups of activities whee teachers show cased their mother tongue languages. It was a great afternoon and a really nice way to finish the afternoon.
