Writing our Central Idea

Today we started our new unit of Inquiry - Where We Are in Place and Time (Earth's Changes)

An inquiry into orientation in place and time; the relationships between and the interconnectedness of individuals and civilizations, from local and global perspectives. 

Today we watched a couple of videos on landslides and what is erosion as a tuning in activity for our new unit. The class then wrote a central idea based on what they had seen and thought.

They did not know what our central idea is and came up with the following

Earths Changes - Understanding why the world changes and why you just have to live with your environment 

and

Understanding the changes of the world and is landscapes over time


Pretty good central ideas. 

Our actual Central Idea is : Ongoing geographical
 changes on Earth have caused humans to adapt to their environment.

Unpacking Beliefs System Central Idea

Today we looked at our new unit of inquiry and unpacked the central idea.

First the class had to decide on the key words from the central idea and rewrite it in their own words so they understand what it is about.
Some really good ideas and we will revisit our thoughts as we go through the unit.

CENTRAL IDEA REWRITTEN by groups
- Knowing about our and other people’s beliefs helps us to respect everyone

- Knowing all the different beliefs and values helps us appreciate others

- Knowing our own and everyone’s beliefs/religions and values helps us to learn and appreciate everyone

- Considering our own and other people’s position expands and helps us to honour each other

- Not discriminating against what other people believe
