Discovering what is Erosion

This week as part of our unit on "Earth's Changes" we looked into erosion and how it affects the Earth.

We went out and created a landscape in the sandpit then looked at what happened when water is continuously poured in one place over and over again.

We discovered the effects of "Erosion"

Minecraft to help with coordinates

This week saw the class very excited to play mine-craft. Mr Matt has created a mine-craft activity to help children read coordinates (map reading)

It was not as easy as some in the class first thought with them having to find up to 5 different locations in the mine-craft world. Once found they each received a prize that they can use to make their character more interesting. The most found was 3.

We do have one more session next week. I hope we will get better at reading coordinates.

Writing our Central Idea

Today we started our new unit of Inquiry - Where We Are in Place and Time (Earth's Changes)

An inquiry into orientation in place and time; the relationships between and the interconnectedness of individuals and civilizations, from local and global perspectives.

Today we watched a couple of videos on landslides and what is erosion as a tuning in activity for our new unit. The class then wrote a central idea based on what they had seen and thought.
They did not know what our central idea is and came up with the following

Earths Changes - Understanding why the world changes and why you just have to live with your environment
and
Understanding the changes of the world and is landscapes over time

Pretty good central ideas.
Our actual Central Idea is : Ongoing geographical
changes on Earth have caused humans to adapt to their environment.
