Guest Speaker - Screen Writer

Today we had Scott Johnson a screen writer come and talk to the grade about his job as a screen writer.

That all anyone needs to become a writer is a story idea. That if you have a pen and paper you can become a writer.

He reminded the children that if they keep a journal they just have to get their ideas down on paper. That his number one rule is "To just write. Show us, don't tell us"

He shared one of his screen plays with us and talked about the process of a screen play being written to getting to becoming a movie.

Scott has written up to 12 screen plays and sold 2 screen plays to companies like HBO and is now waiting for them to be made into a movie.

Scott told us that he has boxes and boxes of journals that he writes his ideas down in and always carries a journal with him where ever he goes so if he see an idea he can write it down.

Persuasive Writing Introduction

This week the class was introduced to Persuasive writing with Ms Lynn.

They looked at what is persuasive writing and what is the purpose of it. They then were given the task of deciding if they were for or against (the pro & con) "Homework" and had to use a mind map to start their thinking of trying to persuade the reader.

We will look forward to posting their writing once finished. Some strong arguments both for and against homework.

Some great ideas developing.

Next time Ms Lynn is in the class we will look t how to create an interesting introduction to our personal narrative.

Peace & Conflict Puppet shows

Over the past week the class has been busy writing a narrative that had some sort of conflict in it.

They then converted their narrative into a script and made puppets for their characters.

Today some of the children got to perform their puppet show to the class. They all did really well performing in front of the class.
