Buddies, Fractions & Assembly

This week has been another busy one. We started our new module in maths - Fractions and also spent time with our buddy class where we shared our modern fable stories we have written. Some  have created a puppet show or comic book.

We also farewelled Kenta on the "Raft" at assembly. Kenta will be returning back to Japan in late March. He will surely be missed by all.
Here are some photos from the week.

Check out Kenta on the "Raft". He spoke very well and can be very proud of how far he has come with his English.

Maths collaborating

Today for maths we worked on word problems for measurement.

Those that had finished early then went around and supported those that had not finished. There was some great peer tutoring going on as they helped their peers solve the problems.

Great work, great leadership!

Measurement

Today we started our new mathematics unit - Measurement.
Objective:  Express metric length measurements in terms of a smaller unit; model and solve addition and subtraction word problems involving metric length.

What a great way to start the unit by getting the class to explore measuring different items.

They all loved measuring a certain teachers shoe....

Fractions

Our new maths topic for the next few weeks is "Fractions".

This week we have been learning how to add fractions with the same denominator, adding mixed fractions.

How to find equivalent fractions (simplify them) and to make an improper fraction to a mixed fraction.

The class have been working really hard to understand fractions.
