Guest Speaker - Ms Karyn

This week we had Ms Karyn from G2 come and talk to the grade about how the artworks she creates is influenced by society.

She told the grade that as an artist she is influenced by the environment that surrounds where she lives, stories of the area, people that she paints for and the culture.

She showed a very cool time lapse video of a piece of work she created. It showed the start process to the finished piece of work.

Buddy art

This week for our buddy time we created a piece of art work.

Each buddy group had a picture  that they had to collage. We will continue to work on this again next week.

Some very cool collages being created and teamwork happening.

Collage designs

Today we started to create our own class collages.

The children had to each design their own local Cambodian, Phnom Penh scene. We had illustrations of boats on the river to the monument and sunsets.

We were also lucky to have the children from grade 2 Ms Karyn class come and give us a hand.

It was such a hive of activity and the creative juices were running hot. I also think they enjoyed playing with the glue.

Guest Speaker Arvin Photography

Today we had Arvin Mamhot a photographer from the Phillipines who has been living in Cambodia for the past 8 years come and talk to the class.

Arvin often shows his work around Phnom Penh and today he showed a sample of his work titled "Purest of Photography".

He explained to the children that he still prefers and takes photos using film. He likes film as it makes you think about the photo you are about to take.

His exhibition "Purest" is about not staging what he takes pictures of but taking in the moment photos. Waiting for the right moment to capture that picture.
