Guest Speaker - Leader

Today we had Mr Hun Maneth the head of the Cambodian Military come and talk to the grade on our UOI - Shape of a Leader.

He talked to the children about what is a leader? What are the attributes of a leader?

He reminded the children that everyone can be a leader, everyone has the ability. You don't have to be born into it. Something we have heard from every guest speaker we have had.
Leaders do not have to hold a title or position, but need to motivate and inspire people to follow them.

To be a good leader, leaders need to be good role models, to inspire and motivate people. They need to be confident in themselves.

He told the children that leaders need to be accountable for their actions and do not blame others for failings. They are accountable for their actions (own up if they fail) but if they do make a mistake, they learn from it and try not to do it again.

Leaders also need to demonstrate honesty and integrity and be trusted by others.

Other attributes of a leader he also spoke about was confidence, charismatic, energetic, caring, collaborative, never giving up (persistent) and that leaders are achievers. They want to get results and tasks completed.

It was really nice having Mr Hun Maneth at school as he is also a parent.

ISA testing in full swing

Today was the start of the G3-G5 ISA testing. It was the quietest I have seen the class be all year.

Today the class had the mathematic literacy test and narrative writing. Tomorrow will be reading and persuasive writing.

There was some great thinking and perseverance going on.

Good luck to everyone.

Peace Day Activities

Today was PEACE ONE DAY and the children got to spend time with the Grade 8 children and rotate around some activities with them.

It was great fun spending time with the older students and learning about the Global UN goals.

The day finished with a combined whole school assembly where we had children from Elementary and Secondary speak to the school on what peace means to them. Fatima G5 spoke about how the world needs to embrace peace. We also had a speaker from the United Nations Cambodia speak about peace and how we can all make a difference if we stop listening to the majority, stop being followers. She was very inspirational.

Here are a few photos from the day

Angkor Wat Bike Training

Angkor Wat bike training has begun. Today about 40 children and parents turned up for the first of three training sessions to get the children ready for the 17km & 37km bike leg of the Angkor Wat run and bike race on 4th December in Siem Reap
The next sessions are Sunday 9th October & Sunday 6th November.

Today the children got to ride a 2km course down a private road as many time as they could in 60minutes but after the first lap there was a lot of tired and hot children. Next time I am sure they will remember their drink bottles. Apart from a few minor crashes the group were definitely better skilled at the end then they were at the start.

Thanks to the parents that came along to support the children.

Art Reflections

On Friday the class had art with Ms Dana.

They spent time sketching in their art journals as well as having to reflect on their art works so far.

They had to reflect on what they thought about the work they have done.
