Khmer Training teachers

Today we had two Khmer Training Teachers from Green Umbrella come and spend time in our class - Hoeung Kimsreang & Doung Nary.

We wish them luck in their training and hope they enjoyed their time in our class.

Marketing Guest speaker

Today Ms Lindy - The Communications and Marketing Manager at ISPP spoke to the Grade 4 students today about how they market ISPP.

Ms Lindy spoke to the students about the roles in the Admissions and Marketing Department at the school.

The school uses different means to advertise, promote itself.

Some of these are ISPP website, Facebook, Twitter, Pulse, Tours, Billboards and advertising on 20 tuk Tuks, newspapers and magazines.

Ms Lindy also reminded the children about "Supply & Demand".

Peace & Conflict Puppet shows

Over the past week the class has been busy writing a narrative that had some sort of conflict in it.

They then converted their narrative into a script and made puppets for their characters.

Today some of the children got to perform their puppet show to the class. They all did really well performing in front of the class.

Unpacking New UOI

This week we started our new unit of inquiry "Marketplace".

Last we visited the Russian market as a tuning in activity and today we completed our first thinking and unpacked the central idea.

We also created a list of vocabulary words we think will need to know in this unit.

Market Field Trip

Today the class visited Superduper Supermarket and the Russian Market.
As part of our tuning in stage of our new unit of inquiry "How we Organise ourselves (Marketplace)". The central idea being that "Markets exist in order to fulfil the needs and wants of a community".

It was a great experience for the children to compare the two markets. Each were organised in different ways but both catered for a variety of people.

The class had to find certain products at both markets and compare their prices as well as record what they could hear, see, and feel at each.

It was nice for our Khmer children to shine in the market as they asked the stall owners the price of products. Afterwards the groups were given a small amount of money to purchase some fruit at the market.

It certainly was a bit of an eye opener for some children when we visited the fresh food section in market where is was real proof of how fresh the produce was.
