Banana split Game (Fair trade)

Today the class was introduced to the "Banana Split Game"

Aim - To introduce the banana chain. What happens to a banana before it reaches the consumer and discuss the reality of "who gets what" from the sale of bananas.

The class was divided into groups of 5 and each child was given a different job in the banana chain. They had to decide on who gets what money in the chain. They were told that each banana cost 30cents and they had to allocate who gets what money from that 30cents.
Some interesting discussions.  It was interesting to see who they thought was the most important job in chain and what person ran the biggest risk. Could lose the most money.

At the bottom of this post is what the groups thought each stage should get as well as what they actually get.

Minato's Puppet Show

This week the class has been presenting their puppet show. They first had to write a narrative then convert that narrative into a script.
Here is Minato's puppet show.

Swimming

Today I managed to get some quick photos of the class during swimming today.

Ms Anne was busy assessing the children.

The water did look very inviting.

Minecraft

As part of our unit of inquiry into "How markets exist", the class gets to play "Minecraft".

A game Mr Matt has designed around our unit of inquiry. The class works in small groups and have to work together to grow products and then sell them in the local market.

Throughout the game they have tasks they have to complete while not dying. They have to keep themselves healthy while making money to build things for their farm. The class are excited to play minecraft and the conversations happening between groups as they allocate tasks is great.

Monday, May 1, 2017

On Monday the grade 4 team had an art field trip with the students from Chak Angkre Primary school to The Cloud (St. 9 and 312) to view students' artworks at the SAPP Art Exhibition.

The children got to see the artworks they had created in collaboration with the students from Chak Angkre primary school. The art works will then be auctioned and the money will go towards supporting more art projects with students across Phnom Penh schools. After spending time at the gallery we then went to Wat Botum Park to play games and eat snack.
